After working on my layout, I then took things I learned and applied it to the designing of my magazine cover. In the middle of October, I had to start focusing on the layout of my magazine. I started to learn about pictures, copy, white space, internal margins, external margins, column design, eyeline placement, vertical axis, dominant photo, copy area, additional photos, and captions. Then, I started to learn about adding more information to a magazine via secondary coverage, along with the importance of visual and verbal connection involving the headline and dominant picture, and then the importance of micro and macro spacing. Then earlier in November, I studied about fonts. I did an assignment about selecting 5 different types of secondary coverage and explaining how the fonts I selected for each secondary coverage piece would add contrast, direct the text, incorporate raised and dropped caps, add to the use text wrapping and transparency, and would align the text. Finally in October, I was given access to StudioWorks, an online publishing program. After given access, I was taught how to use it, and I first learned about the Navigation Bar. This is where the more important sections of StudioWorks can be accessed. Later in the earlier days of October, I learned how to use the tools in Studio Works. I was given an assignment that taught me how to: Create a text box Create a picture box Create a colored background Add a picture Choose a font Choose text size Identify the bleed marker Identify the gutter Use the measurement tool in StudioWorks Measure things in picas Add a stroke In the middle of October I learned about a few more things like: Identify the trim Change the transparency Add a drop shadow with a gradient Adjust the softness Utilize text-wrapping Add a rounding radius Flip an image Invert an image
